FBI says 26/11 attackers sailed from Karachi Zeenews Bureau

Mumbai: The United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Wednesday confirmed Pakistan’s link to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Deposing before the Special Court here holding the trial in the case, an FBI agent said that analysis of the GPS data had confirmed Pakistan’s link to the Mumbai attackers who killed over 183 people of different nationalities during November 26-29 last year.

The FBI agent told the court that a detailed examination of satellite evidence suggests that the 10 attackers, including lone survivor Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab, sailed from the Gulf of Karachi to Mumbai.

The FBI official is the first of the two agents to depose in person before the Special Court. Three US nationals are also expected to give their testimony in the Mumbai terror attacks trial through videoconferencing.

The identity of the witnesses has not been revealed due to security concerns.

The fresh evidence from the FBI is expected to throw more light and confirm India’s viewpoint that the 10 terrorists including Kasab were in touch with their handlers in Pakistan through mobile phones during the attacks.

This is for the first time that witnesses from outside of India are deposing in a terror attack case.

Following the 26/11 terror attacks, in which six Americans were also killed, the FBI had conducted a probe and collected clinching evidence from India as well as Pakistan, which is being placed before the trial court here.

The FBI agents are expected to tell the court how the Mumbai terror attacks were planned and executed by Lashkar-e-Toiba and its commanders.
