New Delhi: Delhi University Students Union
today demanded initiation of criminal proceedings against Vice
Chancellor Deepak Pental for alleged gross neglience in the
radiation leak episode.

The DUSU held a protest against the university
administration accusing it of being responsible for the
criminal negligence.

"The Vice Chancellor should not only be sacked but also
put behind bars for the criminal negligence that has led to
the loss of a life," Kriti Wadhera, DUSU Vice President, told
reporters here.

She said an FIR should be lodged against the Vice
Chancellor and Proctor Gurmeet Singh as the auction of the
radioactive material was carried out under their nose.

"Nothing can happen in the University without their
consent. This is not a small issue but a major lapse," she
said, adding owning moral responsibility was not enough.

Wadhera also said proper guidelines should be framed for
handling and disposal of radioactive waste.

The Delhi University Teachers Association has also
demanded that the Vice Chancellor step down for a fair probe
to take place into the incident.
