New Delhi: A major fire, which broke out at 11.15 am on Sunday at a power plant near Rajghat in Delhi, has finally been brought under control.

Officials said more than 25 fire-brigades were pressed into operation to bring the fire under control.

No casualty has been reported so far in the incident, though the blaze did lead to disruption in power generation.

However, Delhi Transco officials maintained there will be no power cut due to the fire. "The power supply in the connecting areas would not be affected as we have transferred the load to the sub-stations in Kashmere Gate and Indraprastha," said Delhi Transco spokesperson Rishi Raj.

The power plant, run by the NTPC, supplies electricity to North as well as Central Delhi.

Thick, black smoke could be seen billowing out of the 135 megawatt thermal power plant when the fire started.

Reports said the fire broke out in the storage area of the plant.

Authorities had evacuated nearby areas after the fire started.
