Five more Amarnath pilgrims die, toll reaches 85

Five more devotees died of cardiac arrest taking the toll to 85 during the ongoing pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath, officials said on Wednesday.

arrest taking the toll to 85 during the ongoing pilgrimage to
the holy cave shrine of Amarnath, officials said on Wednesday.
Bajraj Lal, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, suffered a
heart attack and died at Panjtarni where one more breathed his
last today, they said.

Jasbir Singh, a resident of UP, G Nayar of Jharkhand
and Santosh from Maharashtra died of cardiac arrest yesterday
at Panjtarni, Pisu Top and Sheshnag while on way to 3,888-mt
high shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas.

Their deaths took the number of fatalities during the
ongoing yatra to the revered shrine, housing the naturally
formed ice shivlingam, to 81.
In addition, four Muslim porters died while guiding
the pilgrims through arduous tracks since the commencement of
the 46-day pilgrimage on June 29.
