French cos discuss construction of N-reactors with NPCL

Two French nuclear companies were in talks with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited to construct two reactors in India.

Kochi: Two French nuclear companies were in
talks with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL)
to construct two reactors in India, Ambassador of France to
India Jerome Bonnafont said hre today.

Talking to reporters on board French Landing Helicopter
Dock `Tonnerre`, Bonnafont said "we have Areva and Alstom, two
nuclear companies, on discussion with NPCIL on the
construction in India of two of the latest generation nuclear
reactors".

"The discussion process is continuing and it is making
good progress. Naturally, it is a long and complex process and
building a nuclear plant is something which is very specific",
he said.

Commanding Officer of LHD Tonnerre, Captain Philippe Ebanga
said as part of operation against pirates near Somalian coast
and Gulf of Aden during the deployment of the vessel, they
had dismantled couple of pirates action group.

On the visit of the ship to India, he said "this mission
is exemplary of the depth of the relationship between France
and India in the field of defence in our strategic
partnership".

There would be joint air manoeuvres between Indian and
French Air Forces next week in France and in 2011 a major
exercise called `Varuna`- a combined Navy-to-Navy exercise -
is planned in India, he said.
