New Delhi: With the government issuing a
terror warning of LeT cadres procuring para-gliders for
possible aerial attacks, Army today said it had made adequate
security arrangements to ensure that Republic Day celebrations
pass off peacefully.

"We have made all necessary, adequate security
arrangements to ensure a peaceful Republic Day parade. The
Delhi police too has made preparations to strength the
security network," Lt Gen K J S Oberoi, Army Delhi Area
Commander, told reporters here.

He was replying to queries regarding the terror alert
sounded by the government in the wake of intelligence inputs
that LeT cadres had bought para-gliders in Europe to mount an
attack on important installations in India.

Regarding the parade, Oberoi said the Army would showcase
its own indigenous Arjun main battle tanks brought from the
first armoured regiment that inducted the fighting vehicle
last year.

"The Arjun tanks, built in India, will roll down the
Rajpath in this year`s parade and these are among the first
that Army inducted into its armoured regiment," he said.

That apart, the Army`s Ambulance Tracked Vehicles would be
part of this year`s parade that would go on for one hour and
24 minutes.

The Defence Ministry has increased the number of tableau
from the States and Ministries to 21 this year from 18 last
year.

School children`s cultural events too have been increased
to five from two last year, Oberoi said.
