Girl child should be killed: Salma Ansari Zeenews Bureau

New Delhi: Known to be clear and forthright in expressing her views, Salma Ansari, wife of Vice President Hamid Ansari, on Friday courted controversy by saying that the girl child should be killed as soon as she is born.

She was expressing her resentment and helplessness in the way the society is treating girls, especially in view of the rising crimes against them.

“My view is that parents should poison their girl child as soon as she is born,” she said.

Unmindful of political correctness, protocol strictness, Salma has courted controversy earlier too for her strong views.

Last year, she had said that the Women's Reservation Bill will not be of much help unless awareness is created among women at the grassroot level.

"I have just one problem with this bill. The government comes up with a lot of schemes and many projects but how many women are able to take advantage of these," she told reporters on the sidelines of a function.

“Unless awareness is created among women at the grassroots and they are educated, such legislations will not be of much help”, she said.

schools should teach students how to read social cues, especially identifying sarcastic remarks.

Mrs. Ansari is a responsible lady. Her comments should not be taken literally. We all get upset when crimes are committed against women and children.

Mrs. Salma Ansari`s comments express immense grief. Indian Police force must be given appropriate training and evry year they should pledge to protect women and weaker sections of the society in particular.

Yet another example to how we are clouded by the news media. Keeping in mind the sensitivity of the issue and the anguish being experienced by Mrs Ansari, the media could have been an instrument of positive social influence. However, they converted it into ``TRP``. The fact is girls in our country our not safe... and I would like to know what the news media is wiling to do - after all even some of thier`s have been hurt.

I dont understand ,Why Mrs Salma Ansari gave such type of statement? she should always keep in mind that she is wife of vice president of India so she must have a strong responsibility towards the society.Doesn`t she know that her statement may affect many life of girl child and many women of our society.I know girls are victims nowadays through many ways.is it fare to punish the victims and give freedom to culprits? It would be more better if she had given the statement in reverse way that - every boy child should be poisoned as soon as he takes birth .In this way her statement could be taken seriously that she wants to punish the culprits before they commit the crime.

Its shocking to read the wife of VP of a nation, making such comments. I understand that she has a freedom of expression but shouldnt she be mindful of the words she uses in public, as it might affect the sentiments of millions of men/women and children. If she is so worried about the condition and the security of women in India, she could use her status to influence people in power to take right decisions. Such strong statements are unwarranted.

I support all the comments above who supported Salma`s statement.

I blame the government officals/People in power,Police officials AND the GENERAL attitude of people towards Women.

In a modern society, crime againist women is completely unacceptable. These criminals should be punished severly(Follow Saudi rule in this..)

We have got sufficient man power to protect each and every citizen of the Nation...But we are not able to do it because of the lethargic approach on the part of the Govt. in creating protection Force... we need to have at-least 10% of the population as Protection force to make the life of the remaining 90 % peace-full... But Govt. is adamant in not recruiting the required security...
We have to fight for right and we cannot go on kill girls... If madam Salma Ansari is really capable of doing something, I request her to remove the Security of all Politicians and their spouse immediately and make them to roam along common man... then we will find immediate solution... As long as they are fully protected they will do nothing good for the security of common man...

Even though I dont agree with her statement but I can undesrstand in what context it was made. We Indians are the world biggest sychopants. At one time we refer to Mahabharata and Ramanaya where protecting women was duty of kings, administration as well as common people. But on the other hand we have become insane and women are hardly respected in this country. Its a shame that after gaining independent and supposedly one of the worlds developing economy women in this country are ill-treated.
