Go back to people, explain welfare measures: Sonia to Congress MPs

Exhorting party leaders to keep their morale up despite the poor performance in the latest round of assembly election, Congress president Sonia Gandhi highlighted the need for the party to stay united and reconnect with the people.

New Delhi: Exhorting party leaders to keep their morale up despite the poor performance in the latest round of assembly election, Congress president Sonia Gandhi highlighted the need for the party to stay united and reconnect with the people.

Addressing party leaders at the Congress parliamentary party (CPP) meet on Wednesday; Sonia said the results of polls are disappointing and stressed on the need to go back to people, explain welfare measures.

Sonia also underlined the need for more unity of purpose and discipline.

Asking partymen not to be disheartened, Sonia said, “We respect people`s verdict. We`ll continue to work for people,” adding that the party will go into causes of Assembly poll rout.

During the meet, Prime Minister Manmohan released a booklet on the achievements of UPA government in the last 10 years.

He also said that the party needs to deeply introspect on the reasons behind the poll debacle.
