New Delhi: The government on Saturday clarified that it was not paying for former president APJ Abdul Kalam's foreign trips, saying his travel expenses were borne by his hosts.

A report in a national daily March 12 had suggested that ever since demitting office in 2007, Kalam has been a "frequent flyer" and the government was "looking to see if it can put a cap on such visits".

"It is clarified that the cost of the foreign travels of APJ Abdul Kalam, former president of India, has been borne usually by his hosts and not the government of India," a statement from the Prime Minister's Office said.

"There is no proposal before the government to put any kind of restriction on the foreign travels of former presidents," the statement added.

HE IS THE RARE MAN IN INDIA TO WHOM EVERY BODY LIKES LIKE BJP ,CONGRESS AND OTHER POLITICAL PARTIES. SIMILARLY, THE HINDUS,MUSLIMS,THE SIKHS, THE CHRISTIANS AND OTHERS ALSO LIKE HIM. HE IS SUCH A ``CANDLE`` (MAN) WHO ENLIGHTENS NUMERABLE CANDLES. HE IS A MINE OF WISDOM . IF THE GOVT. HAS TO PAY HIM FOR IS FOREIGN TRAVEL OR TRAVEL IN INDIA SHOULD NOT HESITATE TO PAY HIM.

What a useless government we have... The nation knows that whenever the Prez. Kalam goes, he spread the wisdom and make our future stronger. He teaches us how to think, how to progress, how to win And our government is saying that he was a frequent flyer so they stopped the financing the trips. Tomorrow this bulls government may say that since there is no war therefore we should not pay to the soldiers. Why don`t someone goes in parliament and kill those bloodsuckers ( ministers, MPs ). Though I am not politically inclined to any party, I think Congress and its allies are pure waste... wipe them out... Jai Hind
