New Delhi: Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan
(KVS) and the city government today told the Delhi High court
that it would soon recruit special teachers for
differently-abled children in its schools here.
KVS informed a bench headed by Chief Justice A P Shah
and Justice S Muralidhar that its governing body has approved
appointment of special teachers and process of recruitment
would start soon.
The school`s response came after the Court had
yesterday pulled up KVS for not having specially trained
teachers in any of its schools here which are having 1,561
differently-abled students.
The Delhi government submitted that it has also
decided to amend recruitment rules for appointment of special
teachers in its schools and the proposal has been sent to
Lt Governor for approval.
The court was hearing a PIL filed by an NGO, Social
Jurists, which had sought its direction to the government to
appoint special teachers for disabled students.
Appearing for the petitioner, advocate Ashok Aggarwal
brought to the court`s notice that KVS, Navodaya Vidyalayas
and other government schools do not have special educators for
the disabled children, depriving their fundamental right to
education.
