Govt didn’t take Oppn on board: Advani on Lokpal

Senior BJP leader LK Advani on Wednesday accused the government of failing to take the Opposition on board as far as the Lokpal Bill is concerned.

New Delhi: Senior BJP leader LK Advani on Wednesday accused the government of failing to take the Opposition on board as far as the Lokpal Bill is concerned.

Speaking in Parliament, Advani said the government had never consulted them on the Bill and discussions with the civil society group led by Anna Hazare. They just formed a committee by their own, he added.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, however, rebutted Advani’s claims, saying the government had written to everyone on Lokpal.

“We had written to all political parties and chief ministers on the issue,” Mukherjee said.

Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal also backed Mukherjee’s stance, saying the government had discussed the issue with the opposition.
