New Delhi, May 05: Continuing the series of sops for
armed forces personnel during poll time, the government today
notified new, increased disability and family pension benefits
across the board for those injured or killed in battle, both
in times of war and peace.
The new disability and family pension benefits under the
Sixth Pay Commission would come into effect immediately and
the notification issued by the Defence Ministry was sent to
the Army, Navy and Air Force headquarters by Defence Secretary
today, sources said here.
"In pursuance of the recommendations of the Sixth Pay
Commission, the Defence Ministry has revised pensionary awards
relating to disability pension, war injury pension, special
family pension, liberalised family pension, special dependant
pension, liberalised dependant pension, special pension and
invalid pension for armed forces personnel retiring,
discharged or invalidated out of service or dying in harness
on or after January 1, 2006," sources said.
The announcement comes even as the 15th Lok Sabha
elections are in progress, and this is the fifth in a slew of
welfare measures since April 21 that could impact the career,
pay and perks of the 1.5-million-strong armed forces jawans
