Govt nods more communities in central list of OBCs

In an effort to enable OBCs in 14 states to avail benefits of reservation in central govt services, the government today approved the inclusion of names of some castes and communities in the central list of other backward castes.

New Delhi: In an effort to enable OBCs in
14 states to avail benefits of reservation in central government services, the government today approved the inclusion of names of some castes and communities in the central list of other backward castes.
A meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh accepted the proposal of the National
Commission for Backward Classes to amend the central list of
OBCs.
The states where OBCs will benefit are Andhra Pradesh,
Bihar, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya
Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar
Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal and Union Territories of
Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Puducherry.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment will
now have to notify the amendments.
