New Delhi: The government has sanctioned 481 fire wing posts for the CISF to augment its strength at five Public Sector Undertaking units.

While three of the units are power stations, the rest are a mining firm and a steel maker.

The largest chunk of the new posts went to the Neyveli Lignite Corporation in Tamil Nadu with 272 additional posts, the monthly report released by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said.

While Mejia Thermal Power Station in West Bengal got 27 more men, Raichur Thermal Power Station in Karnataka got 53 personnel.

The CISF Fire Wing at Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power Station in Bihar got 44 additional posts while the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant got 85 more posts.

Meanwhile, Chidambaram said the ambitious programme of constructing housing for the CPMF personnel has received in-principle approval of the Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC).

"The RFQ floated is for 30 sites (13,026 dwelling units for the CPMF) at an estimated cost of Rs 2,488.59 crore and once the projects are sanctioned, these will be completed over a period of two years," Chidambaram said.

He said under the 'Modernisation of Police Forces Scheme', the entire Budget provision of Rs 1,230 crore in 2009-10 was released, with Rs 231.15 crore going to various states in March.

Sanctions amounting to Rs 197.64 crore were issued for acquisition of land and construction of buildings, barracks and hospitals for central paramilitary forces.

He said four Battalions (around 4,000 personnel) of the anti-naxal force Special Action Force, earlier known as CoBRA, in the CRPF have been operationalised today.
