New Delhi: BJP on Wednesday demanded that the government should come out to support farmers who have lost their first crop due to delayed monsoon.

"Farmers are in a very critical state and crops sown by them have already been destroyed. The farmer is upset but the government is not acting. We are surprised to see the government inaction, when country has seen 30-40 per cent shortfall of rainfall. We demand that government should immediately compensate the farmers who have lost their first sowing," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

He said the government should have come forward to help the farmers in such a situation. "Government must come forward to rescue farmers who are troubled due to deficit monsoon. They need a helping hand," he said.

The BJP also demanded that the government clarifies its position on the Ramsethu issue.

"The world has acknowledged that Ramsethu is a heritage site. It seems the UPA government is abdicating its duties and instead leaving it to the courts. We demand that the government should take a decision on this and the Ramsethu should not be broken," Javadekar said.

He added that the government must make a statement on the Ramsethu issue and come clean. "The government is abdicating its duty to declare it as a heritage site. We demand it should take a decision not to destroy Ramsethu and preserve it," he said.
