Mumbai: The government should rope in the NGOs for better implementation of education facilities and utilisation of funds in the rural area, says an NGO working in the field of education.
Villy Doctor, of NGO Light of Life which works in north Maharashtra and Konkan, also notes that government is not paying attention to dropping-out at the secondary school level, and drop-out rates in secondary schools is higher than that at the primary level.
"Every school should have a social worker who will meet family and peer groups regularly," Doctor thinks.
In rural areas, there is intense pressure to give up schooling from parents, peer groups after standard 7th, she says.
"Government tries to get back children at the primary level and has been able to contain the drop-out rate. But, this does not happen at secondary stage."
