Govt should prove majority: CPI

CPI asked the government to prove its majority after TMC announced its decision to pull out of the government and withdraw support to it.

New Delhi: CPI on Tuesday asked the government to prove its majority after Trinamool Congress announced its decision to pull out of the government and withdraw support to it.

"Since 19 members have moved away from the government, according to all principles of parliamentary democracy, government should prove its majority on the floor of the House," CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta told PTI.

Trinamool Congress, the second biggest constituent of the UPA with 19 MPs, dealt a major blow to the Manmohan Singh government when it decided to withdraw its support on the issue of petroleum price hike, FDI in retail and corruption.
