Govt shouldn`t think opposition not ready for poll: Rajnath

BJP Saturday said UPA government should not to nurture the "mistaken" belief that opposition is not ready for a mid-term poll and hence would give up its demand for a JPC probe into 2-G Spectrum allocation.

Kozhikode: BJP Saturday said UPA government
should not to nurture the "mistaken" belief that opposition is
not ready for a mid-term poll and hence would give up its
demand for a JPC probe into 2-G Spectrum allocation ahead of
budget session of Parliament to avoid such a situation.

"The government seems to be mistaken that opposition
parties are not ready for elections. BJP is ready to face the
mid-term polls if the situation arises," former party
president Rajnath Singh said here.

He made the remarks with reference to the opposition
demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into 2-G
Spectrum allocation scam and maintained that the opposition
would stick to its demand.

"The government continues to run the risk of putting the
forthcoming budget session in jeopardy. It is the government?s
responsibility to ensure Parliament`s smooth functioning.

Therefore, it should institute a JPC inquiry into the 2G
spectrum allocation before the commencement of budget session
of Parliament," Singh said.

Senior leader L K Advani had said at BJP`s Guwahati
National Executive recently that the government was merely
creating the fear of a mid-term poll to keep its allies
together as MPs would not like to face general elections just
more than one year into their new term.

Advani had also indicated that no mid-term polls were
on the anvil.

There are apprehensions that the budget session, like
the winter session, of Parliament would be washed out due to
stalemate on the issue of a JPC probe.

Leader of the House in Lok Sabha Pranab Mukherjee has
called an all-party meeting on February 8 to discuss the issue
and find a way out of the logjam.

Earlier attempts at ending the deadlock had failed to
produce any positive outcome.
