JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda will hold a two-day sit-in in the capital next week along with 1500 farmers from Karnataka, who have been affected by the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project.

New Delhi: JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda will
hold a two-day sit-in in the capital next week along with 1500
farmers from Karnataka, who have been affected by the
Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project.

Gowda, who has been agitating against alleged
irregularities in the project, today told reporters that he
would bring the farmers whose land have been acquired for it
to Delhi for the dharna.

"I will stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar on March 10 and
11 to highlight the irregularities in acquisition of land for
Bangalore-Mysore Express highway. I will bring 1500 farmers
from Karnataka who have lost land in the project," he said.

The former Prime Minister also said that a detailed
memorandum on the affairs of the project would be submitted to
President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and other
political leaders after the dharna.

He said the 1,500 farmers will be representing poor
agriculturists, dalits and owners of small bits of land.

Gowda said he has spoken to CPI leader A B Bardhan,
CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat, TDP chief Chandrababu
Naidu and RLD chief Ajit Singh for garnering their support.

"I will meet Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and Leader of
Opposition in the Lower House Sushma Swaraj in Parliament
tomorrow to apprise them of the issue," he said.

The JD(S) chief said "the dharna would also be against
the manner in which the BJP-led Karnataka government has
notified 1,70,000 acres of land in 26 districts of the state,
without having any concrete scheme in mind".
