New Delhi: The Gujarat High Court today adjounred the hearing on the killing of teenaged college student Ishrat Jahan in an alleged fake encounter with the state police till December 15 after the Superme Court order staying the proceedings of the case in the High Court.

Since The Supreme Court has stayed the proceedings in the high court based on application of Ishrat's mother Shamima Kausar, Justice K S Jhaveri adjourned the case till December 15.

The three-member committee appointed by the HC to investigate the 2004 encounter killing case of Ishrat and three others submitted the progress report of the work done by them and sought extension of time to complete the probe.

In September, a judicial inquiry by magistrate S P Tamang had said the encounter in which Ishrat and three others were killed was fake and executed in cold blood by police officials for personal benefit.

Tamang's report was later stayed by the Gujarat High Court on a petition the state government. The high court had observed that the report was beyond jurisdiction of Tamang.

In August this year, the high court, on a petition by Ishrat's mother, had formed a three-member committee headed by an officer of the rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) to further investigate the encounter killing of Ishrat, Javed Ghulam Sheikh alias Pranesh Kumar Pillai, Amjad Ali alias Rajkumar Akbar Ali Rana and Jisan Johar Abdul Gani on June 15, 2004.
