Gujarat fake encounter: Crime Branch DCP arrested

The CBI on Wednesday arrested the DCP of Crime Branch in Ahmedabad for his alleged involvement in the 2005 fake encounter case.

Ahmedabad: The CBI on Wednesday arrested the DCP of Crime Branch in Ahmedabad for his alleged involvement in the 2005 fake encounter case.
IPS officer Abhay Chudasama who was serving as SP, Valsad at the time of the encounter was nabbed by the CBI which has been probing the case after taking the baton from the Supreme Court that was earlier in charge of the investigations.

The senior cop who was held today has been accused of supplying weapons at the time of the incident.

Reports say that so far about 14 policemen have been arrested for the alleged killing.

Sohrabuddin Sheikh, a gangster, was killed by the Gujarat police in a fake encounter in 2005. IPS officer DG Vanzara, who was then with the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad, later said that Sohrabuddin was a terrorist and that Vanzara had foiled a terror plot targeting Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

The issue became highlighted when Gujarat Police claimed that the victim died in a police encounter. The debate started when CBI investigation team submitted a report to the Supreme Court alleging that the encounter was fake in which he died. Later, CID arrested the three senior police officers, DG Vanzara, Rajkumar Pandyan and MN Dinesh for their involvement in fake encounter.
