Chandigarh: The Centre can ask the Haryana government to register a new case against the accused former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore in the Ruchika molestation case, a report said on Thursday.

The Centre can ask the Haryana govt to register a case of abetment to suicide against Rathore. The family of Ruchika Girhotra, who committed suicide three years after her molestation by SPS Rathore, has filed two FIRs which consist of 15 offences against the accused in Panchkula.

A third FIR is also expected to be lodged on the charge of abetment as the teenager allegedly committed suicide after continuous harassment by the former senior IPS officer.

“The arrest of Rathore can be made soon and there would be no time frame fixed for arrest of SPS Rathore. A fresh FIR can be registered at any point of time today.” Manish Choudhary, SP Panchkula said.

According to the reports, Ruchika’s lawyer will submit the document related to the case to the Home Ministry for further scrutiny. The Law Ministry and CBI will investigate the case further and examine the documents related to the case.

The Haryana police had registered the FIRs on the basis of complaints by Ruchika's father and her brother Ashu, regarding the latter’s alleged harassment, including attempt to murder him, and tampering with the post-mortem report of Ruchika.

Principal to be grilled today

Meanwhile, the Chandigarh police are scheduled to grill the principal of Sacred Heart School, Sister Sebastina, on Thursday.

The development is the fallout of the Chandigarh administration’s magisterial probe into the reasons behind the Sacred Heart School in Chandigarh for expelling the teenager in September 1990, just a month after she was molested by Rathore on August 12, 1990.

Rathore’s arrest imminent?

Commenting on the Haryana former DGP SPS Rathore’s arrest Shatrujeet Kapoor IG, SIT said that Rathore’s arrest will depend upon the probe’s outcome. “At present we will just examine the witnesses and then only come to conclusion,” he said.

The IG also said the most of the records are with CBI, so the police team will coordinate with the investigative agency to push the investigation further.

Yesterday, the Girhotras got support from the highest quarter after they met with Union Home Minister P Chidambaram who assured them full support in the case.

Earlier, the Home Ministry sources said that during their discussions with Home Minister P Chidambaram, Ruchika's lawyer Pankaj Bhardwaj, father SC Girhotra and her friend Aradhana's father Anand Parkash were believed to have agreed that a third FIR could be lodged against Rathore on Thursday.
