Hasan Ali case: ED raids Cong leader’s house

Bihar Police is probing how Hasan Ali Khan got a passport from Patna on a fake address.

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is probing the black money case, has raided the residence of AICC member and Congress spokesman in Bihar Amlendu Pandey.

A news channel has reported, Thursday, that the investigating agency suspects Pandey to have helped Hasan Ali, India’s allegedly biggest tax evader, get a fake passport from Patna.

The raids were conducted at the Congress functionary’s Gautam Nagar residence in Delhi, yesterday.

The reports further claims that ED has recovered some incriminating material during the raid.

The investigating agency believes that the passport procured from Patna was used by Hasan Ali to facilitate his banking transactions through which he siphoned off huge amounts of money to his accounts in foreign banks atleast USD 8 billion (Rs 36,000 crore).

Earlier, Bihar Police had said it will probe how Hasan Ali Khan, accused of stashing away billions of dollars abroad, got a passport from Patna on a fake address.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Alok Kumar said a regional passport officer here had lodged a First Information Report, last year, against Khan for submitting fake residential proof.

In his passport application, Khan gave Pathantoli locality in Alamganj area in Patna as his address and Belsand village in Sitamarhi district as the permanent address, Kumar said.
