Hazare movement could undermine democracy: Aiyar

New Delhi: The recent civil society movement triggered by Anna Hazare's anti-corruption campaign holds the danger of undermining democracy and its institutions, senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar said on Sunday.

"Civil society's recent movement has not understood the malaise. Their recent movement carries the danger of undermining our democratic institutions and our democracy," Aiyar told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

"Civil society can and should agitate on issues but the resolution of issues can only take place in the institutions of democracy," he said.

Aiyar, a nominated member of Rajya Sabha, said, "If a politician is not allowed to enter Janta Mantar and anybody who says he has got the support of the people is described as a filthy dirty fellow and these noble people will never fight an election...then you are endangering democracy...They don't understand what they are doing is undermining democracy."

Aiyar's remarks came days after the government said it was keen to work with civil society members to draft a sound Lokpal bill despite controversies and yesterday's meeting of the activists led by Anna Hazare that decided that Justice Santosh Hegde, who had threatened to quit from the drafting committee, would continue as a member.

Emphasising the need for inclusive growth in the country, Aiyar said, "That is the danger we are facing, if we have to preserve our democracy...we must recognise that inclusive governance is a critical pre-requisite for development.

Without inclusive growth, we will neither be able to sustain development nor promote democracy," he said.

Noting that without inclusive growth, high growth will cause deep social fissures that will aggravate inequalities in the society, he said, "Widening gap will lead to naxal problem and mindless anti-incumbency and like the recent atmosphere by the middle class in which the political class is being disrespected."

PUSHPAK AGARWAL - NEW DELHI
DEFINATION OF: `` DEMOCRACY ``
NEED TO BE DEFINED FIRST.
IN MY OPINION `` INDIANS STRUGGLED FOR FREEDOM & DEMOCRACY (NOT FOR EMPROR TYPE DEMOCRACY) ``.
SO I say COMPARISSION IS WRONG.

Democracy is not good unto itself but is a means to achieve goodness and welfare of people. But over a period of time vested interests have projected Democracy as good unto itself, meaning thereby that process is bigger and sacrosanct than the goal. Mr. Aiyar`s howling is nothing but a sense of fear of a politician to loose grip over the process which has been manipulated and twisted by the politicians to further their personal interests and nothing more than that. The corrupt politicians along with bureuacrats have mastered how to take undue advantage of the vulnerability of democratic processes. Mr. Aiyar, anyways is a communist by soul so it cleary explains his shrouded attack on the most democratic movement of Free India.

Anna`s present demand to sit together and draft an effective Jan Lokpal bill that would have teeth and claws and that would be passed in the next monsoon session of parliament to be effective tool to curb huge or small curruptions in the entire country has no connection, whatsoever, with the funtioning of the democracy. Mr Aiyer is afraid of inclusion of honest people in drafting of effective bills for parliament, which was sofar being done by him or his currupt colleagues as MPs. They were in habit of drafting a faulty bills that can perpetuate curruption and becomes enabler to continue looting of people and public money. Spreading perception of undermining democracy by civil society members is a calculated canard to undermine the reputation and efforts of civil society members. Where were these socalled pillars of democracy during the last sixty years? Why could not they be able to draft and pass an effective Jan Lokpal bill to fight curruption? Enough is Enough. Their calculated canards are not going to work anymore. They must keep their mouth shut so that the drafting and passing of Jan Lokpal bill in parliament becomes reality to look into the cupboards of all the politicians and to arrest those who are found currupt with unaccounted huge cash or wealth.

Manishankar Aiyar is beurocrate and his beurocratic philosophy of systamic slavary and covering up mechanism of babudom is well experienced by civilians.

He and his like minded people never improved the efficiency to deliver the goods to the people at large in last 60 years and never comeup with mechanism to nab bad people in system. Wise example of CVC, CBI all this become Pet Institution of Ruling parties and act like domeestic servent of ruling party.

PRESERVE OUR DEMOCRACY - Mr. Aiyer who are you making fool of. Preserve it so that Politicians may keep sucking peoples blood for another 50-100 years. Hazare movement is just to help Democracy in setting its house in order. And if this movemement fails, take my word, the DEMOCRACY - the way it is in India - is itself going to fail and no body because of politicians like you.

Now that Diggy has stopped, Aiyar stars barking. He is a part of the corrupt Congress and an ex-babu. He probably like Diggy babu, is afraid of the residual skeletons in his cupboard.
