Chennai: A city advocate has moved the Madras High Court for a direction to the Tamil Nadu Government to take immediate steps for issuance of a red corner notice by
the Interpol against Douglas Devananda, a Sri Lankan Minister, in view pending criminal cases against him here.
When the miscellaneous petition filed by advocate P Pugalenthi came up for hearing today, a Division Bench comprising Justices K Mohan Ram and G M Akbar Ali adjourned its hearing by two weeks.
A PIL petition filed earlier by Pugalenthi, who is also Secretary of Peoples` Rights Forum, seeking extradition of Devananda, is already pending before the high court.
Pugalenthi in the PIL had submitted that in June 1994, an Additional Sessions Judge had issued a proclamation warrant against Devananda, treating him as an absconding accused in a murder case. The case, registered by the city police, pertained to the killing of one Thirunavukkarasu in 1986.
