Heat wave conditions prevailed in the northern region today with the mercury settling above 40 degree celsius at many places and Barmer in Rajasthan sizzling at a high of 46.4 degrees.

40 degree celsius at many places and Barmer in Rajasthan
sizzling at a high of 46.4 degrees.

Kota followed closely with the daytime temperature
rising to 46 degrees, the Met office said. In Jaipur, the high
was recorded at 43.6 degrees.

In the national capital, residents experienced the
season`s hottest day with the mercury shooting up to 44.4
degrees, breaking a four-year record in the month of May.

The maximum humidity level was 53 per cent while the
minimum went down to as low as 13 per cent as hot dry winds
added to the woes of the people.

The last time the temperature surpassed the 44-degree
celsius mark in the month of May was in 2006. In that year,
the seventh day of May recorded a high of 44.5 degrees.

In Himachal Pradesh, the maximum temperature reached
42 degrees in Una, a rise of 4.2 degrees as compared to
yesterday.

Despite partially overcast skies, capital Shimla
experienced a high of 26.8 degrees. Nahan and Mandi
experienced daytime temperatures of 36.8 and 36.4 degrees
respectively.
