New Delhi: BJP on Wednesday condemned as
"unfortunate" Home Minister P Chidambaram's statement on
security situation in the country since the Mumbai terror
attack and said his job was to instil a feeling of safety and
security among the people.
"I am absolutely perturbed to hear the statement of the
Home Minster. It is unfortunate and we condemn it. It is an
irresponsible statement," BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad
said.
He said Chidambaram should not make statements which give
rise to pessimism.
Prasad was reacting to the Home Minister's remarks that 12
to 13 terror strikes, which could have been like Mumbai or
Delhi attacks, were neutralised in 2009.
"It is the job of the Home Minister to ensure that people
feel safe and secure. He should create an atmosphere of hope
and security," Prasad said.
He asked Chidambaram to inform the people of the steps
being taken to prevent a 26/11-type attack in India.
"He should tell us what steps are being taken to handle
26/11-like attacks....We cannot wish away 26/11 as a
collective failure," he said.
