Mahila Congress chief Shobha Oza on Thursday said criminalisation of homosexuality should be debated by Parliament in the light of the Supreme Court verdict on gay sex.
Bangalore: Mahila Congress chief Shobha Oza on Thursday said criminalisation of homosexuality should be debated by Parliament in the light of the Supreme Court verdict on gay sex.
".....When the Supreme Court has shifted this entire issue to Parliament, it should be debated..." Oza told reporters here.
"If any citizen of this country feels that there should be a change in law as far as gay rights are concerned, it should be debated; and we have time and again proved that for various issues- there has been change of.... With changing times," she added.
To a question on whether UPA government will take initiative in bringing this issue to Parliament, she said "For UPA you know how much time is left, the issues to be debated in Parliament have already been listed."
"In case UPA comes (to power) for the third time, they should bring this issue in", she said.
On women`s reservations bill, Oza said "It has to be tabled in this session in Lok Sabha. It is already listed." "We are trying to build consensus about the bill, we are sincere on that; ....We have shown our commitment by bringing it to Lok Sabha, let the BJP come out and vote for it and show their commitment."
On the poll debacle of Congress in assembly polls in four states, she said "It was not vote for BJP, it was a vote against Congress against price rise.... It was a negative vote, it was not for BJP- otherwise Aam Admi Party wouldn`t have come in Delhi. Modi is not a factor at all."
