New Delhi: BJP on Monday hit out at its former ally JD(U) for "creating hurdles" against a rally of Narendra Modi in Patna later this month and alleged that the party is doing so due to its growing proximity to Congress to protect its leader Nitish Kumar in a CBI case.
BJP MP and spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said Congress is using CBI to get new allies and after SP and BSP, JD(U) is set to join hands with the ruling party.
"Government uses the CBI when nothing else works... It has used the CBI against SP and BSP. On November 22, CBI has to file a report in the Ranchi High Court in a case involving Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar," he said, adding that BJP is aware of Congress and JD(U) trying to become allies.
The court has asked CBI to file a counter-affidavit in the fodder scam by November 22 and explain why Kumar and JD(U) leader Shivanand Tiwari were not named in the Rs 950 crore Animal Husbandry Department scam. Kumar was allegedly paid Rs one crore.
"Tiwari has already given a statement that Congress should ally with JD(U). After the coal, 2G spectrum, Commonwealth Games and the helicopter scams, Congress wants the JD(U) on board," Hussain said.
He alleged that this "proximity between the two parties is one of the reasons for Kumar creating hurdles" for a Modi rally scheduled to be held in Patna on October 27.
BJP has charged that while earlier the Bihar government was giving only half of the Gandhi grounds in Patna for the rally, it has now invited President Pranab Mukherjee for a programme on the same day.
