I am not Arjun Singh`s `official spokesperson`, says son Ajay

Ajay Singh, son of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Arjun Singh, on Monday said that he would not like to comment on his father`s silence over the Bhopal Gas tragedy as he was not his "official spokesperson".

Bhopal: Ajay Singh, son of former Madhya
Pradesh Chief Minister Arjun Singh, on Monday said that he would
not like to comment on his father`s silence over the Bhopal
Gas tragedy as he was not his "official spokesperson".

"It is for my father to decide when and what to say
and I have nothing to do with it," Ajay told a news agency.

The Congress legislator said it was his duty to stand
by his father in these trying times and he was performing it
to the best of his ability.

"I am Arjun Singh`s son and I greatly admire and
respect my father," Ajay said.

The MLA said although he was not born here, he loved
the city and added that his grief for the disaster victims was
as much as that of any other citizen of the city.

"The city has given everything to me and I fondly
remember my school days in Bhopal," he said.

In 1983, Union Carbide had donated Rs 1.50 lakh to the
Churhat Children`s Welfare Society, Ajay said, adding that
three or four other companies had also donated money to his
Society.

"At that time, I was not even an MLA and my position
was that of an ordinary Congress worker," he claimed.
