New Delhi: It is said that nobody can really guess Mulayam Singh Yadav’s political calculations, and this was proved once again on Tuesday when the Samajwadi Party supremo said that he was not a prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
However, while Mulayam dismissed himself as a contender for the top job, the SP chief said that there was good chance of Third Front forming the government next year.
It is well known that Mulayam has long coveted the PM’s chair and political ‘pundits’ have maintained that 2014 is his last chance to fulfill his ambitions. Perhaps, that is why he chose Akhilesh Yadav to be named as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh so that the SP supremo was free to play the leading role in central politics.
Earlier, CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat had said the Samajwadi Party chief could emerge as the prime ministerial candidate in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls if his party does well.
Observing that a Third Front was always a post-poll possibility, Mulayam had said earlier this year that neither the Congress nor the BJP, but those forming an alternative front would get a majority in the next General Elections.
