IAF carries out largest rescue and relief ops in floods

Carrying out its largest ever search, rescue and relief operations, the Indian air Force has deployed all types of transport aircraft in providing relief to the flood-ravaged states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

search, rescue and relief operations, the Indian air Force has
deployed all types of transport aircraft in providing relief
to the flood-ravaged states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Altogether 26 aircraft including IL-76, An-32, Dornier,
Avro Cheetah, Chetak, Mi-8 and Mi-17 carried out 123 sorties
today and moved 846 people to safety along with dropping 110
tonnes of relief material in the affected districts, IAF
spokesperson Wing Commander T K Singha said here.

IAF`s Bangalore-based Training Command is the nodal
agency for carrying out aerial operations there and cells have
been formed in Bangalore and Hakimpet for coordinating efforts
in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, he added.

As many as 89 people have been rescued by IAF choppers in
the last three days.
