IAF expeditions to Mt Kamet, Mt Gamin flagged-in

Indian Air Force expeditions to the twin peaks of Mt Kamet and Mt Abi Gamin were today flagged-in by IAF Vice Chief Air Marshal P K Barbora here.

New Delhi: Indian Air Force expeditions to
the twin peaks of Mt Kamet and Mt Abi Gamin were today
flagged-in by IAF Vice Chief Air Marshal P K Barbora here.

The team of 35 mountaineers included eight women officers
who are planning to undertake an expedition to Mt Everest in
2011, two Army personnel and four personnel from Bangladesh
Air Force, IAF officials said.

Two teams of three members each successfully summited
these two peaks in Garhwal Himalayas on May 13, they added.

Of the IAF women officers attempting to climb the peaks
as part of their pre-Everest event, Flight Lieutenant Nivedita
summited Mt Kamet and Squadron Leader Nirupama summited Mt Abi
Gamin, the officials said.

IAF has launched several mountaineering expeditions since
2009 to train the IAF women mountaineering team for the
Everest expedition slated for 2011.

This was the third expedition for the team after Mt Stok
Kangri in August 2009 and Mt Bhagirathi-II in the same year in
September-October.
