New Delhi: Asking air warriors to be "lethal, flexible and agile", Air Chief Marshal P V Naik today said the IAF's focus was to acquire a "set of capabilities" as the force was fast emerging as a strategic aerospace power.

"Our focus is on acquiring a set of capabilities, which can be applied in any conflict scenario.

The IAF is fast emerging as a strategic aerospace power as a result of the vision and effort of many generations of air warriors and we will continue with this glorious legacy," he said in his message to the personnel on New Year's eve.

He said IAF's task was to protect the nation from threats arising from air and space and the "challenge before us is to operationalise our new equipment at the earliest and develop in-depth knowledge and competence, so that we can fully exploit the technological potential."

Expressing faith in the capabilities of the personnel, he said, "though the task ahead is huge, I remain convinced that it is well within our reach through hard work and innovativeness."

Dr B Gupta - UK
In order for India to grow as a self sufficient and independent nation we also need to be disciplined and just should not rely on an inflated self image of being the world`s largest democracy. I totally agree with the comments made by previous commentators that proper funding should be allocated to education and research by diverting astronomical funds from protecting and sustaining criminally tainted politicians who have been ruling us for the last six decades.

so long as we are depending on other countries for equipments and technology it will be limited and depends on the considerations of other countries. what we need is to become self sufficent and self dependent on technology and equipments. for that we need to invest more on research and development and finding and encouraging the talents with in the country. in that matter we are still far behind. hope he will take more interest in self sufficenythru development of technology with in inida.

If India wants to be a reasonably better power, it needs a credible military hardware manufacturing base. The heavy government control and mismanagement of most indigenious weapons program has produce inferior quality of weapon/weapon systems. If the sector is opened up to private sector, it will produce much better results. DRDO is a joke.
