New Delhi: A 13-member IAF team of motorcyclists today embarked on a 'Explore the Himalayas' odyssey from here, in which they will visit the world's highest battlefield Siachen's base camp.

The team led by Wg Cdr VV Singh was flagged-off from India Gate on their mission by IAF's Air Officer-in-charge Administration Air Marshal J N Burma, an IAF press release said here.

The expedition will pass through Kasauli and Kaza to the Siachen Base Camp and return via Kargil, Srinagar and Amritsar, covering a distance of over 4,500 km in 16 days.

The team will spread awareness about the IAF among the residents of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir en route, the release said.

The team will negotiate demanding roads over high passes such as Baralach La at 17,645 feet and Khardung La 20,212 feet during the expedition.
