IAF motorcycle expedition to Siachen base camp

A 13-member IAF team of motorcyclists today embarked on a `Explore the Himalayas` odyssey from here, in which they will visit the world`s highest battlefield Siachen`s base camp.

New Delhi: A 13-member IAF team of
motorcyclists today embarked on a `Explore the Himalayas`
odyssey from here, in which they will visit the world`s
highest battlefield Siachen`s base camp.

The team led by Wg Cdr VV Singh was flagged-off from
India Gate on their mission by IAF`s Air Officer-in-charge
Administration Air Marshal J N Burma, an IAF press release
said here.

The expedition will pass through Kasauli and Kaza to the
Siachen Base Camp and return via Kargil, Srinagar and
Amritsar, covering a distance of over 4,500 km in 16 days.

The team will spread awareness about the IAF among the
residents of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir
en route, the release said.

The team will negotiate demanding roads over high passes
such as Baralach La at 17,645 feet and Khardung La 20,212 feet
during the expedition.
