Silchar: The Indian Air Force (IAF) will soon induct more than 150 Sukhoi Su-30 MKI combat jets and 80 Mi-17-1V medium-lift helicopters as part of a massive drive to boost its capabilities, a top military commander said Wednesday.

"We are getting more than 150 Sukhois. There is also a deal on for 80 medium-lift helicopters from Russia, fifth-generation Russian fighters and special helicopters for flying VVIPs like the president and the prime minister," the IAF chief, Air Chief Marshal P.V. Naik told reporters here.

Naik is on a visit to the northeast to oversee facilities and review the airpower capabilities in the region.

He said that irrespective of whether or not there is a threat from its immediate neighbours, India would continue building its airpower capabilities.

"Many more new aircraft would be coming in. There are plans for the next 20 years with India's zone of interest extending from the Strait of Hormuz to the Strait of Malacca. The Indian Air Force should be able to have the capabilities to meet those aspirations," Naik added.

"It doesn't matter what our neighbours (China in this case) do or think. We want to build our own capabilities and make sure we are fully geared up," he pointed out.

The air chief said the eagerly anticipated medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) requirement for at least 126 jets is now in its trials stage.

"That would also be a very valuable addition to the Indian Air Force," Naik said.

The IAF chief said the northeast was a priority area, with the government focusing on upgrading facilities in the region.

"We are upgrading airfields and other facilities here as part of our capability building measures," Naik said.

Let us stop boasting and and do everything to make india invulnerable to so called terrorist threats and threats and actual aggressions from the neighbors. Every Indian Life is invaluable and must be avenged immediiately and we must follow the footsteps of our Israeli friends. Every Indian life taken wherever in the world must be avenged with full force. Leave this in the hands of our Armed Forces and not in the hands of our silly Policiticians who are willing to sell the Country for the safety of their Khurshis. Jai Hind

Indians have a bad habit and that is they talk (boast) more and do less. This trend needs to be changed as soon as possible. Let us do what we need to do with out crowing. It`s heartening to know the country is importing 150 Su. It was over due. There seems to be a nexus existing between China and Pakistan against India. Pakistan is using Terrorism as a proxy war and China is arming Pakistan to the teeth. India needs to strengthened its armed forces by upgrading their infrastructure and the machines they have, number wise and quality wise as soon as possible. If India allows now on another 1962, It might be wiped off the world map. Jago bhai jago Aur Jagtay raho. May God bless India.

The IAF chief`s statement that IAF will have more warflights/ helicopters is indeed happy news. Our nation requires more flights and helicopter for the purpose of surveillance of the longest coastal areas as well as islands under our control . The nort east and north west and southern zones should monitor and watch over with the help of IAF for safty aspects . The GOI should allot more funds for modernisation of war planes /induction latest model flights replacing the all old planes
