IAS officer in vigilance net in Orissa

The anti-corruption wing of the Orissa government today registered a criminal case against an IAS officer and another senior officer on the charges of involvement in the chicken feed scam, officials said.

Bhubaneswar: The anti-corruption wing of
the Orissa government today registered a criminal case against
an IAS officer and another senior officer on the charges of
involvement in the chicken feed scam, officials said.

Cases were registered against B P Sethi and Uma
Shankar Patra, Dy Director (Poultry) of Animal Husbandry and
Verternary Services, Orissa, under section 13 (2) read with 13
(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and under
section 420 and 120-B of the IPC, vigilance SP Debadutta
Patnaik said.

Sethi, a 1995 batch IAS officer and presently working
as the director of census operation in Orissa, was not
available for comment.

His name was dragged into financial irregularities
when he was a director of animal husbandry and veternary
service two years ago.

"During enquiry it was found that Sethi and Patra
conspired with poultry firms namely Suguna Poultry firm Pvt
Ltd, Pasupati feeds, Eastern Hatchery Pvt Ltd and others have
shown undue official favour to the firms in allotment of
subsidised maize and thereby derived pecuniary advantage to
the tune of Rs 1,34,53,307," Patnaik said.

In the course of investigation, simultaneous raids
were conducted on Eastern Hatchery Pvt Ltd, Orissa Poultry Ltd
and Kalinga Poultry today, he said.
