New Delhi, May 28: IGNOU on Thursday launched a diploma programme in 'security operations' in association with Security Skill Council of India (SSCI) with an aim to train about one lakh security guards by 2011.
"The aim is to train one lakh security personnel by
2011 as demand for security personnel has increased manifold
in recent past in view of the heightened threat perception,"
IGNOU vice-chancellor Rajasekharan Pillai said while
launching the programme.
The programme will commence from January next year,
and is open to graduates, under-graduates from all streams.
SSCI would impart the training and IGNOU would act as
the monitoring agency, the vice-chancellor said.
He further said as IGNOU is the nodal agency for
training 21,500 BPL youths under the SGSY programme for skill
development, youths from this segment can also enrol for the
programme.
During the last academic session, a certificate
programme on the subject was also launched, under which 5000
candidates were trained. "They have found placements in
different security agencies," the vice-chancellor said.
