New Delhi: Singapore`s statesman Lee Kuan
Yew does not see India and China resolving their border
dispute in the foreseeable future but feels there will be no
direct conflict between the two Asian giants.
He made views known on India-China relationship while
speaking at a CII Singapore Symposium here today.
"Border problems have not been resolved and not expected
in foreseeable future...I will be surprised if they (India and
China) resolve their differences in the next 10...20...30
years," Yew, who is Singapore`s Minister Mentor, said.
Although border issues, mainly on Arunachal Pradesh
front, would continue to be there, business would keep flowing
between the two emerging economies, he added.
"I don`t see any direct strategic conflict because of
border issues. It will not be all sweetness, but trade and
investment will continue," Yew said.
Speaking about bilateral relationship between India and
China, Yew said: "This is in interest of both (to foster
bilateral ties). Both need to grow and conflict is
counter-productive...I think both can grow (together)."
Yew said India has a big potential of growth if the
country improves its infrastructure.
"India lacks fast connectivity between cities... Once you
get your logistics right -- road, port, railways -- and cut
down red tape, you will get jobs not only in IT, but in
manufacturing and all. Jobs will grow and the country will be
transformed," he opined.
