India contributes $1 mn to UN Women budget

India has contributed USD 1 million to the core voluntary budget of UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, or UN Women, for the year 2011.

New York: India has contributed USD 1 million to the core voluntary budget of UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, or UN Women, for the year 2011.

India`s Permanent UN Representative Hardeep Singh Puri handed over a cheque for the amount to Michele Bachelet, under secretary general and executive director of UN Women on Friday.

India`s contribution demonstrates its firm support to the promotion of UN efforts in the field of gender equality and the empowerment of women, India`s UN mission said.

India is currently one of the members of the Executive Board of the UN Women.
