Thiruvananthapuram: Former ISRO chairman G Madhavan Nair on Friday claimed India has attained self-reliance in aerospace engineering with the active support of industries.

"The country has achieved self-reliance in treating aerospace materials with the active support of industries. Indigenously developed rocket motors are performing accurately," he said.

ISRO and DRDO have also played a vital role in developing aerospace materials, Nair said after inaugurating the annual conference of National Aerospace Manufacturing Society here.

Nair also stressed the need for new inventions to be put to various applications in aircraft manufacturing, automobiles and household appliances.

People talk at 35000 ft., get back to earth..here we are unable to manufacture one squadron of LCA (after 25 years of development) and an indigeneuous engine (kaveri since 1981) and we are talking about self reliance. There isn`t a single aircraft manufacturer in India who has the ability to manufacture an entire aircraft on their own (rotary or fixed). Come to terms with reality, we are happy with third gen and fourth gen aircrafts when the world is on 5th gen (or soon will be) on 6th gen. We need active investments apart from PSUs in the private sector, if we want to become an aviation / aerospace powerhouse.

Even after such advancements in technology for producing missiles(agni-5,akash),avionics,radars,tanks and aircrafts....India`s 70% armes and machinery is equipped with the help of Russia....For that i think that we should focus on improving technology for making world-class aircrAfts which can compete with US`s f-16,france`s dassault rafaele etc..and i m also sure that INDIA will achieve it very soon....My best wishes are with HAL,DRDO and ISRO..for their furthur technological improvements.
