Washington: Recognising increasing Indian
role in Asia Pacific region, a top US official today said that
the United States wants to have a strong dialogue with New
Delhi about its look East Asia strategy.
"I think our desire is to continue a strong dialogue
with India about their so-called Look East strategy, which
obviously involves India playing a larger role economically,
politically, strategically, in the Asian Pacific region," said
Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific
Affairs Kurt Campbell.
"We welcome that. We support that. We think that`s an
important development in the next phase of Asia`s growth,"
Campbell told reporters in response to a question at a news
briefing held at the Foggy Bottom headquarters of the State
Campbell had a led a US delegation to New Delhi in
March to hold discussions with Indian authorities on India`s
role in Asia.
"I took a delegation to Delhi for discussions with
Indian friends about developments in Asia generally. We talked
about Southeast Asia, China, Northeast Asia and developments
there," he said.
"We talked about regional architecture and the desire
to see India play a larger role in the emerging architecture
of the Asian Pacific region. I must say, we were quite
satisfied by our discussions, and I think we look forward to
continuing deeper discussions with Indian friends about
developments in the wider Asian Pacific Region," he said.
