Washington: India on Friday hoped that Iran
and the global nuclear watchdog IAEA would come to an
understanding over Tehran`s nuclear programme row, saying it
is against all forms of proliferation.
"India`s position is very clear on Iran that we are
against all proliferation," said the External Affairs
Minister, S M Krishna, who was in Iran, just a few weeks back.
There he said he had discussions with the Iranian
leaders to whom, Krishna said conveyed India`s point of view.
"Our point of view was duly conveyed to them that
every country that would like to use nuclear technology for
peaceful purpose like augmenting their energy requirements, I
think the country should have the liberty, but the liberty has
to exercised within the parameters set out by the
International Atomic Energy Agency and the Nuclear Suppliers
Group," Krishna said.
"So we are hoping that Iran and IAEA will come to
some understanding and there are some other powers also which
are trying to be helpful in bringing about the understanding,"
said the External Affairs Minister.
