Washington: Senator John Cornyn, founder and co-chairman of the Senate India Caucus, has greeted Indian Americans on India's Independence Day saying their native country was among America's "strongest allies and friends".

"I want to congratulate all Indian Americans in Texas and across the country as we mark India's Independence Day," the Republican lawmaker from Texas said in a statement.

"India and the United States are cooperating more closely now than ever before, and the relationship between our two nations continues to strengthen and benefit both of us," Cornyn said. "I'm proud to say India is one of our nation's strongest allies and friends."

"My congratulations to the world's largest democracy and the millions of Indian Americans living in this country as you celebrate freedom and independence on this important day."

Dharam Bahl - USA
I agree with Senator`s remark as to the importance of relationship between India and the USA. The process of fostering and maintaining of strategic relationship between India and the USA should continue, especially to keep a lid on the ever rising ambitions of China in the region. China is America`s enemy No. 1 and not Russia. It is, therefore, very imperative for USA and India to keep a close watch on the activities of China and in that respect India can play a major role for the USA. No doubt, people in India have their suspicions about America`s dual policy towards Pakistan. Indians understand that America has to work with the Pakistan government to eradicate militancy from the region. But the problem becomes more complicated and convoluted when American Senators and Congressmen start initiating a discussion to send advanced weapons to Pakistan which eventually will be used against India. Taliban and Al-Queda are not equipped with 21st century weapons for whicih Pakistan needs to fight with an advanced weaponry. AMERICA NEEDS STRAIGHTFORWARD FOREIGN POLICY TOWARDS INDIA.
