Hyderabad: Hailing the unity of the country despite all its diversities, Vice-President M Hamid Ansari on Friday said the open-mindedness and cohesion would promote social cooperation among people.

"What is unique about us is that we celebrate our diversity. According to one official authoritative survey, there are something like 4,693 communities in India. Each community has a distinctive identity but nobody says that every individual community should not have an identity.

"The greatness of our land, our system is we accept that identity and we can still stand as one and say we are Indians. This requires not only a cultural moulding of the mind but also of a commitment. The commitment is to each other," he said.

Ansari was speaking after inaugurating the golden jubilee celebrations of the 'Kshatriya Seva Samiti- AP' here.

"If we remain committed to each other, if we accept each other's diversity, if we accept to be open-minded, committing ourselves to cohesion and cooperation, then there is no question to doubt that in the next 50 years and beyond that, social cooperation in the form of this meeting or any other social service organisation will flourish in India."

He said though justice has been delivered in the last 60 years, efforts need to be continued in the direction of ensuring equality and justice to all sections of the society.

Appreciating the service rendered by the Samiti during the last 50 years in various areas like education, Ansari said others need to be inspired by them.

Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan also lauded the organisation for its contribution towards society.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy hailed the enterprising and helping nature of the Kshatriya community.

Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh, who is associated with the Samiti, said community-based groups can take up social causes for the uplift of the deprived.
