Melbourne: India`s security system is extremely capable to deal with a situation of Pakistan supporting the Taliban and exporting terrorists to the country, a former director of the Intelligence Bureau has said.
"As far as India`s security system is concerned, it is extremely capable. Should Pakistan support Taliban and export them to India, we should be able to deal with them," Ajit Doval, former director of Intelligence Bureau, said at the University of Melbourne-based Australia India Institute (AII) Tuesday. In a speech on `Challenges of global Terrorism`, Doval said India`s security system was well placed and equipped and that the country had been fighting terrorism and insurgency for a long time now but blamed lack of political interest in the country to deal with it. Indian government has been making tactical moves to deal with terrorism and insurgency whether it was in the case of Northeast or Punjab like releasing prisoners but the question still remains on political will, he said. "Should there be a political will, this can be achieved," Doval said. On a question of joining politics, Doval said he was not cut out for politics and would refrain from doing so. Reacting to former chief of Research and Analysis Wing Sanjeev Tripathy joining the BJP, Doval said he hoped that the decision to join politics was taken with a view to serve nation.
