New Delhi: Describing LeT, Taliban and Al
Qaeda as "common enemy" of India and the US, American
ambassador Timothy J Roemer on Friday said that the two countries
were working closely at an "unprecedented level" on counter-
terrorism and regional security issues.
"We have a common enemy in Taliban, Lashkar-e-Toiba
and Al Qaeda. We are working shoulder to shoulder, minute to
minute in field of information sharing and collection and
analysis of intelligence," he said while answering a query on
the major challenges faced by the two countries at a CII
event.
Roemer said the two countries have been working
together to increase their counter-terrorism capabilities to
ensure the safety of Indian and American citizens.
The ambassador said that the bilateral strategic
partnership between the two countries was the strongest ever
and they were working at an "unprecedented level" on counter
terrorism and regional security along with various other
issues.
The US Ambassador to India said relations between the
two sides were moving ahead "smoothly" in economic cooperation
also.
Answering a query on the possibility of American
universities coming to India after the Cabinet cleared the
Foreign Universities Bill, Roemer said many colleges had
expressed interest in partnering with India but instead of
building campuses here, "may be they can start partnering with
India".
He said that India faced three major challenges
including to grow its economy at 8-9 per cent annually,
provide power to its people and industry; and build
infrastructure.
