Yaseen Mohammed has been accused of failing to stop after he hit a 76-year-old man crossing the Hume Highway at Croydon yesterday.
The elderly man died in hospital shortly afterwards.
The accused handed himself into police at Parramatta Police Station, in Sydney`s west, yesterday.
He was questioned and later charged with failing to stop and assist someone involved a fatal vehicle incident.
The road was closed to traffic in both directions for several hours as crash investigators combed the scene.
The driver has been refused bail and is expected to appear in local Court today.
