Indian national jailed for molesting hotel trainee

An Indian national who molested a young hotel trainee was sentenced to a week`s jail and fined USD 2,100 here Thursday.

Singapore: An Indian national who molested a young hotel trainee was sentenced to a week`s jail and fined USD 2,100 here Thursday.

Businessman Udaya Kumar Purushottaman Chembottu admitted in a district court to touching the 19-year-old on the shoulder, rubbing down her back to stroke her buttock and slapping it at a four-star hotel in Singapore`s Little India shopping centre on February 6.
When the victim saw Chembottu, 50, coming towards her, she immediately lowered her head and turned her face to avoid him, according to a report by The Straits Times online
edition.

But Chembottu, who is married with a daughter, still molested her. The victim felt upset, helpless, angry and cried. Earlier, the victim had seen Chembottu hugged and kissed another hotel employee, a charge taken into consideration by the court.
Chembottu could have been jailed for up to two years or fined or caned or received any combined punishment, according to the report.
