Toronto: An Indo-Canadian was arrested and asked to leave the country after he allegedly gave an inflammatory speech in support of LTTE at an event where the flag of the outlawed Tamil rebel group was also hoisted.

Sebastian Seeman, a film director from Tamil Nadu, who was in Canada on a tour, was taken into custody by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers and questioned, after which he agreed to leave the country immediately.

CBSA spokeswoman Patricia Giolti later confirmed the arrest, and his lawyer, Hadayt Nazami, said immigration officials had intended to deport him on security grounds unless he left voluntarily.

Seeman left Canada on Thursday night. The Tamil film director was scheduled to speak at a community function on Thursday but was forced to cancel it due to his arrest.

He was also scheduled to speak in Montreal yesterday. Seeman is known for his hardline speeches in support of Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers.
